(not so) Deep Thoughts…

I Won… kind of

With this years NCAA basketball tournament coming to a close I found myself on the edge of my seat hoping that my picks in the office pool would come out ahead.  On Monday night Florida and Ohio St. squared off for the national championship and I was victorious since Florida owned Ohio State all game. When I went into the office on Tuesday I wore my orange and green tie in support of my victory, only to find out that I was the lucky guy that had to use my winnings to buy everyone pizza.

2007 NCAA Final Four

With Georgetown pulling off a victory over North Carolina this afternoon my bracket in the office 2007 Final Four pool is looking very good. I have selected all four teams successfully and have chosen Florida to beat UCLA and Ohio State over Georgetown. In the championship I have picked Florida over Ohio State. We’ll see what happens.

Kadyn is Almost One

The past month has been a wild ride for Darci and I. During the month of February Kadyn had to go to Urgent Care twice and to see her doctor twice. She was sick for almost three weeks straight. It started as a fever, then morphed into an ear infection, and wrapped up as a stomach flu and head cold. She was not a happy camper. Unfortunately Darci became quite ill at the same time. It was not fun. Currently everyone seems to be back in working order.

On the 20th of March, Kadyn will celebrate her first birthday. It is amazing how fast time flies by and how quick they grow up. It seems like yesterday we were at the hospital, but then sometimes it feels like she has always been a part of our life. It has been an amazing ride.

  1. Bloc Party – A Weekend In The City
  2. Lily Allen – Allright, Still…
  3. Oceansize – Everyone Into Position

blocparty-01.jpg lilyallen-01.jpg oceansize-01.jpg

The new Bloc Party CD is more produced than their previous effort, but it has the same angular indie dance grooves that made me fall in love with them before.

The Lily Allen CD has been the big surprise of 2007 for me so far. This British singer has the spunk of Lady Sovereign and lays it over a soundtrack that is reminiscent of what The Specials would sound like remixed. It is very cool.

Oceansize is back with a new batch of progressive tunes. As always they will continue to push the boundaries by creating some of the most epic tunes heard on a set of headphones. They have a sound that can be easily compared to that of Porcupine Tree, Tool, Muse, and Faith No More.

We’re out of power again…

On Tuesday night I started cooking some chicken tacos, when all of the sudden the lights go out. We looked outside and saw that the power company was working on a few houses in the neighborhood that were without power, so we decided to go out and run a few errands and grab a bite to eat at Q-Doba. When we arrived back to the house we were still out of power and that the line to our house was missing. We were informed that the damage to the mast on our roof was extensive enough for them to consider it a fire hazard and that we needed to call an electrician.

So we started a fire and pulled out the phone book. By the time I was done calling, Darci had moved the futon matress next to the fire and set up the pack and play for Kadyn. I woke up about every 3 hours to throw another log on the fire. It was fun, kind of like camping indoors.

We got back hooked back up on Wednesday and were back in business.

Ice Age: The Saga Continues…

Well… It has been 6 days since the ice storm first hit the Springfield area and many are still with out power. It was estimated that over 65,000 households lost power over the last weekend. Currently there is still 25,000 households without power. Generators are in high demand, as well as gas powered chain saws to help with the clean up efforts.

We have been extremely lucky to have only been effected for a short amount of time. It is amazing how different your outlook changes when you are faced with losing the things that we normally take for granted.

I have included more pictures of the damage taken with Darci’s phone after the camera died and wasn’t able to charge it. Enjoy…

The Ice Attack!

Wow….. it has been exciting around here. Springfield was hit with one heck of a winter strom, bringing rain and ice that has just devestated the city. We lost power late Friday night as we were trying to get some rest. It was hard to sleep with the sound of tree limbs hitting the house every 20 minutes. The storm is not quite over yet as it is raining fairly hard at the moment and will probably freeze, just as it has done the last two nights. The good news is that we have power again and we have removed the tree limbs that were potentially damaging to the house. Enjoy the pics…
